Which list is that? The Book TOC? (I've kind of lost my place in this thread) It is possible to use the Dynamic Page List (DPL) extension to generate a list of pages in a category. We use this on the FAQ pages. It depends on the pages being in the right Categories for them to show in the list. I have a feeling this is not what you were asking about though.
