The overall project membership list is very long, and not real
informative [2].
But maybe their last login shows up somewhere in a logfile?
Possibly... but that is buried in the Colabnet infrastructure somewhere.
I cannot say how many people are active, or even
ever came back after joining the project.
The wiki Special:Statistics is better: We have presently
27.082 Registered Users
71 Active Users (within last 7 days)
(maybe you could tweek the page to show the number of active users in a
longer time period? last month or last year would fit better, I think)
I'm not going to tweak the Wiki stats page :-) That's part of the core
of MediaWiki. Chances are I'd end up breaking things.
And still I'll love to see how many users do how many edits on the wiki
- not only the users with the most edits are interesting, but also
users, which show up once or twice and never come back again: do they
also add value to the wiki/doc/...? How much?
There is really nothing available that can do this. There is an
extension that will allow you to graph pages vs page edits, but only on
your current user ID, and if you're an admin, also for all user. This
extension is available via special pages right now, but I think I'll be
removing it since it seems to put a very heavy load on the Wiki, and it
gives me timeouts if I ask for more than 1 year worth of stats.
There are no comprehensive use stats available either within the core MW
framework, or with any extension I've seen.
Wiki stats I can get....
- approx 50,000 unique page views per day
- 1,413,185 unique visitors to the Wiki in November 2009
- 19.7% of the Wiki visitors come from the USA
- 12.5% of the Wiki visitors come from Germany
This is just basic web traffic data though, and does not relate back to
visits vs. edits etc., which is more interesting to anyone thinking
about how the Wiki is being used.
