Greetings! My name is Mike Weland, I'm zoning administrator and public information officer for Boundary County, Idaho, and a long-time professional writer and editor.
Having recently switched from Microsoft Office to Open Office, I am impressed and appreciative, and willing to assist in the endeavor to write the users manual ... or any other wordsmith tasks you might have. I'm a computer geek of long-standing, having made the shift from an old Underwood to the miraculous Royal 7000 Word Processor as a military clerk with the 82nd Airborne in 1981; I "digitized" my unit on 5 1/4" floppy disks and went on to program slide shows for top brass on the venerable Apple IIe. I rarely touched a computer after leaving the Army in 1983, but fell back into it when I became a reporter in Bonners Ferry in 1991, not from the programming side, but from the application user's side. I've set up and upgraded relational databases in FileMaker Pro, and I've built and maintained numerous web sites dedicated to publishing news and information. I'm an expert at interview, I know how to research and I know how to write. If there is anything I can do to further the Open Office mission, I am willing to contribute. Please let me know if and how I might be of help ... and please recognize that as a special assignment reporter, I work best when given a specific assignment ... the more arcane the better. If there is a particular area or topic you would like covered, I would appreciate the chance to tackle it.
