Implementing additional data sources?

Hi folks,

Two data source related questions:
1. Is anyone working on an Apache Solr data source?

2. Is there any documentation regarding implementing additional data 
sources? Can't find anything on the wiki, and the code seems to contain 
a bunch of undocumented interfaces which may or may not be relevant 
(StoragePlugin seems a likely candidate?). A bit unsure how to proceed 
there.
