Most of the existing storage plugins are copy/paste efforts from earlier work. There is a large amount of duplication and lots of "tradition" code that may or may not be correct. It could be a burden to have to learn the new, simpler framework rather than just repeating past practice. All that said, the new framework was created for a different REST service, so porting this one should be pretty simple.
