kafka tests and samples are a success for java8 with local kafka_2.11-0.10.1.0
servers
I downloaded kafka_2.11-0.10.1.0 and setup local servers as per
https://kafka.apache.org/quickstart
created the topics needed by the tests "testTopic1" and "testTopic2", and
"kafkaSampleTopic" needed by the sample
./gradlew connectors:kafka:test --tests '*.*Manual'
then ran the sample as per scripts/connectors/kafka/README
