Hi Rafaella,
Actually we been doing exactly the online pootle message. Where we have
2 processes for string management. Currently we have two roles,
translators and editors. Translators submit the translation as
suggestions and the editors validate the string and submit it (using
SEND).
It's really great to hear you and the ES team is following a 2 step
structure: 1st translation and then linguistic review. Where we can
support you / the ES team is review and update of the Glossary and may
be capturing major issues that should be fixed across all the files.
We could offer you this help starting with the 3rd handoff (the one
which was scheduled for March 13th and which has just been delayed).
Just let me know if this is something you would like Sun to take care of.
Yes we wanted to get in the boat with sungloss and start improving it
specially now that we are looking into having more organized process
and looking into getting new injection of volunteers.
We could help with the SunGloss improvement, but I think that it would
make sense to do that while reviewing. But I would like your feedback on
this.
We still have some demands for pootle like adding timestamps of the
suggestions and be able to index the user's post to his nickname and
have basic stats of it. I think this is not very hard since pootle is
based on python and is very good for indexing stuff and building
relations between objects. (ok I am going geekspeak now).
The point is that we want to broaden the localization process but we do
need better tools. We still found it very hard to work with the current
implementation of goals and assignment that pootle have.
I understand this perfectly and I think that we should start gathering
all the features as well as bug fixes we need in Pootle.
Just let me know your thoughts
Rafaella

Hi Alexandro,
let me introduce you Joy.
Joy Zhang works as translation project manager at Sun and coordinates
the translation work with Sun vendors as well as the linguistic review
with Sun Language Leads and vendors.
Since Aridane has not so much time to perform review and provide
langauge support to the ES Community as she would like to spend, myself
and Joy worked together to come up with a linguistic review plan for ES
Community translations.
I would like to suggest this plan to you.
Basically, there are 2 processes that can be followed for linguistic
review: the online linguistic review process and the offline linguistic
review process
Online linguistic review process:
This process can be followed only if the translation has been carried
out with the online Pootle editor AND the translator has saved the
translations by using the Suggest button.
The Sun linguist will be granted Reviewer access rights, will be able
to perform review on the Suggested translations, modify them and set
them as finished.
While making corrections, the linguist will make some notes on the
major changes he/she has carried out.
Offline review process:
The Offline review process can be followed only if the translation has
been carried out offline on .po files containing new and fuzzy strings.
For this is is necessary to run the pofilter function on the files
downloaded before starting translation. Once the files are translated
they will be sent to the Sun linguist. He she will perform review and
return to you the files and the review results. After implementing the
changes you will then be able to upload the files to Pootle. Here below
the offline review process in detail:
1. Download zip files from Pootle.
2. Filter new/fuzzy from the po files by pofilter.
3. Translate the generated file which include only
new and fuzzy.
4. Review the file - SUN
5. Implement the changes to the file off-line.
6. Merge the updated new/fuzzy to the original by pomerge.
7. Upload the merged po files to Pootle with Overwrite.
Alexandro, it is important that we get your feedback on the above. We
are willing to help but we can do that if we work together to know for
which files we are going to use which method.
Joy, feel free to add anything I might have missed.
Thanks,
Rafaella
