### Motivation
Kafka connector sometimes will have two exceptions when polling.
1. Consumer polls when it is not subscribed to anything. It will raise an
exception and cause the thread to shutdown permanently, which is not what we
want.
2. RecordDeserializationException: Consumer failed to deserialize.
### Modifications
For the first problem, I added a check on the subscription of the consumer.
The second issue is a bit more tricky. It was a bug in initializing the
Kafka consumer. The added lines will fix the bug.
