Both empty arrays and empty collections have not been written properly.
Likewise on read, they have not been read properly. With the fix empty arrays
([]) and collections ({}) are written and read back in. For arrays, the type
can be supported. For collections the type, of course, is irrelevant and cannot
be saved.
