Ok, I think I took your suggestions and committed the result in 3 parts in case
I misunderstood :-)
r 1442007 original change to expose service
r 1442008 change maven version to result in an aries-version-checker acceptable
bundle version
r 1442009 change to the single PrintWriter style interface
I'll wait a couple days to close for more comments.
