Subject: [Translate-devel] Changes to oo2po / po2oo

Hi Pavel, Dwayne, Vitor

I have been looking at a problem for Vitor from the portuguese team, and
it led me to think we need a change in po2oo.
Currently po2oo and oo2po assume that SDF files have the first line in a
pair as the original and the second line as a translation.
In oo2po if you give it a -l switch it will rather use the language IDs
in each line to work out what is what.
po2oo needs to be changed to do the same, otherwise if the lines are in
the wrong order it totally messes it up.
So what I propose is that po2oo also has a switch giving the original
and target languages.

Currently po2oo has a -l switch which is used to change the target
translation language to what is given.
So somehow we need to allow for this as well.
However, I've now changed it so that it won't simply change the second
line of every translation to the target language, it will just set that
language ID on strings that it changes.
Changing the structure like this also allows us to do something which I
think is quite nice: If the translation in the PO file is empty, do not
add it into the SDF file in po2oo. What this means is that you end up
with 'missing' SDF lines rather than just having the English put into
them. So then if you convert back to PO files, you end up with empty
strings again, rather than English msgid and English msgstr.
Pavel, how do you this change would affect the system?

These changes are not yet in CVS, I just wanted to get basic feedback
from you before going ahead. It seems to work very nicely to me, but
Pavel has used this code more than anyone I think :-) But I'm ccing
translate-devel in case anyone else is interested

So yes, I'm back on oo/po code stuff (and ain's question _still_ hasn't
been forgotten... sorry!)

Regards
David
