Thanks Chirag for starting this thread. It's very prescient as these topics were at top of mind for me after I attended a session at the GSOC mentor summit on Github automation.
Rough notes I took from that session are at https://goo.gl/iw2nHc. What was focused on in that session was Zulipbot and Gitmate. I specifically liked how these tools addressed some of the permission gaps by allowing all users without having write access to assign themselves issues, or attach labels. They also integrated nicely with chat tools to provide automated instructions to new contributors. Some other valuable bots that came up too: were Ansibot, Dangerbot, CoRobo, and PlotsBot as well as ZenHub Chrome Extension.
