Anyway, you did not mention what you'll be doing. Please understand that
mere asking whether you can work on some issue doesn't suffice. Ask
yourself what would you exactly do regarding this particular issue you
commented on if you'd be given consent to work upon it?

As the issue is regarding multiple language support, you should post some
more information e.g. which language will you be helping with and your
approach - whether it'll be mere translation (strings.xml file for some
specific language) or will it be something different, e.g. adding feature
for the user to change the language right there in the app (irrespective of
the system's language settings).

While I'm not familiar with the codebase of that repo, these are some
generic questions any mentor/maintainer would expect from the aspiring
contributors. Some details are always helpful especially when the issue
itself doesn't mention the problem with the steps to implement the fix. If
the problem is not clear, a better option would be to ask for clarification.
