* Following the discussions on the mailing list * Reviewing existing PRs to understand how things are done * Setting up my environment properly * Looking through older tickets to check which ones are still valid * Starting with smaller contributions like documentation or tests Once I’m more comfortable with the workflow and the codebase, I’ll pick a small, valid issue to work on. I'm also not sure if that's a valid ticket. Note that my advice for new devs is to first spend a few weeks monitoring the listserv, search the mail list archive, learning by observing, maybe reviewing the Pull Requests (PRs) in github. Maybe even provide a comment or support a changeset. There's a lot to understand here. Then, take on things like writing tests, or improving the documentation. Set up your dev environments. Maybe take on a small ticket within your expertise.
