Are you running with Flink 1.15? There was a bug in Kafka 
<https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-13840>, which showed up in Flink 
1.15 due to an upgrade in Kafka dependencies.

It’s tracked by this Flink Jira issue 
<https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLINK-28060>, and has been resolved in 
Flink 1.16.
