I agree that there is a race condition here, which has been known for a while.
Frankly, I am ok with that existing - since the put/take/commit will fail if
the writer is closed and the transactional mechanism will trigger a retry. I am
not too inclined with having a complex mechanism to prevent a race condition,
which is known to be quite harmless.
