That may be a case where you could dynamically change the memory channel 
setting and get away with it, but more often you can't. What you really want is 
to 
a) start the new agent.
b) "drain" the old agent.
c) shut down the old agent.

The key is step b. 

Why would that not be valuable even in a standalone agent?
