Personally, I’d be interested in seeing Flume distributed as an RPM in addition to the zip file it is now. If I tinkered around with Maven to make this happen, is there any interest in it?
Some thoughts: - install to /opt, but maybe it could be a relocatable RPM without any more work - maybe put the config files in /etc/flume, or not (especially if it’s relocatable) - maybe create a flume user when the RPM is installed Before we get into the never-ending debate about where to install, whether or not you create the user, etc: Remember that I’m not talking about removing the existing zip distributions. Those that don’t want it / don’t like it / fear change can still do whatever they’ve always done. -- Jeremy
