Thanks so much. It helps my sanity (a little) to have someone verify it.
It is still very strange though. Using the same specs machine as you, there are
differences. It is slight, but it is different. On another older Mac the
difference is more dramatic. For extra weirdness, Opera is okay on both
machines.
I have investigated in more detail.
The CSS header background colour is #294563 blue.
#1) The previous file (which was used to produce the new one):

Downloaded both files using curl.
The Gimp shows that the colour is the same for both (#294563).
Two machines:
#A (Mac OS X 10.6.7; Firefox 3.6.17; Opera 11.11; Safari 5.0.5)
#B (Mac OS X 10.5.8; Firefox 3.6.17; Opera 10.63; Safari 5.0.5)
On machine #A:
The file #1 has correct colour using each application.
The file #2 has correct colour only using Opera. However with Safari and with
Firefox the colour is #1F4465
On machine #B:
The file #1 has correct colour using each application.
The file #2 has correct colour only using Opera. However with Safari #213450
and with Firefox #20344F
