Thank you!

I think before you copy something into the clipboard, you must have selected 
something. So you got the clipboard contents.

If you copy something from another application such as notepad or wordpad, then 
go back to a writer document(havn't selected anything before), click middle 
button of mouse, you can't get the contents in clipboard.

I tested in window system. Because Linux has this feature already. So it works 
across apllications.

Hi Zhu Lihua,
I forwarded your question to the user experience team. I am not sure
that "Paste selected" is a better name for this function. Although your
are right that for your scenario it would better describe the function.
But if you don't have a selection, you would paste the content from the
clipboard.
