I kind of understand this mechanism and came to the same conclusion. I was just wondering whether it would be a lot of work to hack a system that simply does circumvent the deep type-detection when the document's size is 0 and that even circumvents any import filter use, and just opens an empty document in the application that correspond to the flat detection of the document (basically to the extension of the file). I would not mind to hack it, just need pointers where to look for the corresponding code.
