I must confess I was wrong assuming that this is a bug.

The embedded document is allowed to have only a part of document as visible area that is represented by the replacement image. And the printing mechanics is currently designed so that it is independent from the visible area.

Printing of embedded object is a combination of these two features, so it still has to be defined which behavior is designed one.
