Hi All

Here are some of my ideas for getting started with the Freemarker Twitter
account

*Adding the ASF logo as a Twitter header*
A few projects have added the ASF logo to their twitter account to reinforce
the relationship. Here is an example

https://twitter.com/ApacheFlex and https://twitter.com/ApacheFluo

The existing twitter header for the freemarker account is just blue so adding
some colour with the Apache logo could liven it up a little

*Twitter Freemarker Graphic*
It's not major but this looks a bit blurry so it might be good if we improve
the quality of it,

*General Comments*
The account has made 42 tweets and have 278 followers. Your number of followers
is significant and looking at them they are global so some good opportunities
to spread the word.

The Freemarker twitter account isn't following anyone. The main way to find out
what is happening in the industry, in the wider community etc is to follow
other Twitter accounts. (It's a bit like a news feed). This is useful as it is
a way for you to see what is happening. It is also a way that your followers
can talk about what interesting things they are doing.

Twitter also provides statistics on how many people look at your tweet or
re-tweet it to a wider audience so we could use this a as measure to see what
is popular (or not!). This is a useful way to promote Freemarker.

I suggest that you follow the ASF Twitter account, ASF Infra (so you know if
there are any infra issues) and Apachecon for events.

You can also follow the twitter accounts of other related projects or
technologies and also people who are active on the mailing list and active on
twitter. For example we could post a message on this list asking people if they
tweet community relevant information and want to be followed by the project.

*Events*
We can tweet about events that members of the community will attend – so
first we need to let people know about what events are coming up that they
might find interesting. For example FOSDEM is coming up next month and is
completely free to attend. They have main tracks and developer rooms. Is there
anything that could be relevant to the Freemarker Community?

*General Tweet Topics*
These are a couple of areas that we could agree that the tweets need to fit
into. See below for my suggestions.

1. Project News and Current Discussions, Releases, Events / Meetups, Tutorials,
Freemarker implementations announcements
2. Community Related (eg. Collaboration,, What we are working on, Where we are
looking for help etc)

I will post a separate message for some proposed tweets as this post might
generate some discussion and it would be good to keep them separate.

I hope this is useful so please let me have your feedback, comments or
suggestions.

Thanks
Sharan
