I don't know... I won't be in the way either way.
Normally, community have to choose the better one, You may start a
thread and / or a vote. I can make more proposal If you prefer to have
more choise.
Let me know :)
For the egg, I wanted to make it ^^ But you're right, project use this
logo in addition of the project logo (http://incubator.apache.org/)
BTW, "Call for Entries -- Apache Incubator Logo":
https://blogs.apache.org/incubator/date/20170103
Not sure that I'm sure I want to start a work for that. But thank you
for the information.
A new try here :

Some light effects and a new filetype logo.
Note sure about the light effect. Can be seen as a nice touch, or can
be seen as ruining the minimalism/contrast.
I don't know how you see it. If you are using google preview, it could
be blured. I suggest you to use Inkscape instead, to have the best
visual quality.
All my files are vectorial, so you can zoom in without any blured or
pixel issue.
Anyway, I see you have a CLA at Apache, so I think there's no obstacle
in using, let's say, <F> with the drop shadow on Twitter. Right?
Yep, I'm already commiter on Apache OFBiz project so no problem.
As of the file icon, the 1st or the last, though icons used to be 16
px high, which looks entirely different. But AFAIK we have no place to
use a file type icon currently.
Ok, no problem. Like the egg, I had it in my mind so I had to draw it ^^
Let me know if you want more try, idea or if you want me to create final
file. I can decline it in many format with different with.
Julien.

Hi Daniel,
<#> may be closer to the FreeMarker syntax but <F> relates more to the
FreeMarker name and would be better for marketing purposes.

Hi,
I have done a little job to create the tiny logo for Freemarker.
To be sure that I'm not on the wrong way.
Please find it in my share folder :

I like first two rows. My pick would be the 2nd logo of the 1st row
(rounded corners, pale blue). (To me it a bit feels like as if the F
should be moved up and left a little to be at the visual center,
instead of being geometrically at the center, but that's a minor
thing.)
Semantically, <#> would make more sense, as that how FreeMarker tags
look (<#something>), but if that can't be made to look that good, it
can be the <F> as well.
It's a svg file so, no problem of pixel, blured and so on.
In continue the work for the "biggest" logo
The "biggest" logo? You just mean the header area on twitter, or do
you intend to create a replacement for the header "logo" on
freemarker.org? (That's possible too.)
and the egg. I'm not sure about the big "<FREEMARKER>
(Here again, it would be the best if that starts with "<#", if that's
not a big problem visually.)
but I like the <F>.
I think about a blank file icon with the <F>... I'll provide an example
soon.
