The message may be misleading, the build with rc4 fails in
modules\network\src\test\org\apache\geronimo\network\protocol\DatagramProtocolTest.java.
Removing this test seems toallow the build to proceed.

It looks pretty clear to me that Geronimo does not work with rc4.
Please, stick with rc3 until someone figures out what is broken.
