Hi Alan,
>From "Welcome to Apache Geronimo" (http://geronimo.apache.org/index.html):

The aim of the project is to produce a large and healthy community of J2EE developers tasked with the development of an open-source, certified J2EE server that:

  • is licensed under the Apache License
  • passes Sun's TCK for J2EE 1.4
  • reuses the best ASF/BSD licensed code available today, with new ASF code to complete the J2EE stack.
Assuming that the above is an accurate description of what Geronimo is about, then I'd say LGPL is a no-no.

There's another issue with ActiveMQ 3.1. It pre-reqs JMDNS (which is LGPL). Looks like James fixed (i.e. removed JMDNS) in late August. So, we'd need this change and your GBean changes... I don't know how far reaching the JMDNS change was...

The activeMQ team is trying to get one more bug fix in for activemq
3.1.1 (3.2 was kind of a mistake).  This may be in by mid-week.  I
think there are some gbean changes that mean we can't use amq 3.1.

I can make the same GBean changes to 3.1 if that would be helpful -- I had just applied them to ActiveMQ HEAD at the time, but they don't depend on the ActiveMQ core classes really.
