It's not a problem with the first build, as I did a *clean* (deleting my m2 repo) build without any problems using the known instructions (step1, step2).

Can you run mvn -Dmaven.test.skip=true -Pstep1 install from the root of the source tree , and then try mvn -Dmaven.test.skip=true install from the same location?
