    It is an excellent idea. The plans could define the namespace as follows:
<module xmlns="http://geronimo.apache.org/xml/ns/deployment-${schemaVersion}">
   The filtering will be done by PlanProcessorMojo.

I've got an idea of using M2 filtering resources feature to achieve
it, but am not quite sure it would work with all XML stuff (XSDs,
etc.). Just a thought. If anyone could explain the problems one could
run across while implementing it using filtering I'd appreciate it. Or
I'll just wait patiently till Anita commits the change...
