Forrest,  Thanks for the additional information ... that is certainly 
interesting.  It also doesn't happen with the Mac JDK (my test).  So it looks 
like this has to do with jdk implementation differences ... perhaps the use of 
an indeterminate set when an ordered list is necessary to return an expected 
target.
