The current version of Netty has a few bugs in compression codec.
Further there were a large number of improvements made to netty, these might
benefit us.
For instance, while I was investigating this sometime back I realized that
poolchunk allocation algorithm used in Netty can be improved.

When I tested this on some of our applications I saw 10% improvement in
runtime. I am just creating this task for once 4.0.21.Final of Netty will be
released, which will be done very soon. Then I will upgrade the version & make
related code changes.
