Alfonso Nishikawa commented on GORA-184:
----------------------------------------

Hi, Lewis.

I only request about the versions for my own needs and maybe someone knows
something about all of them :)

I took Hadoop 1.0.3 because it was the last revision when I downloaded it for
the first time (now they released 1.0.4). Hope has less bugs.

Issues like GORA-94 (migrate to avro 1.7.x) are planned for Gora 0.3, there is
quite long road until release, and I have some different restrictions (all
related to versions). I noticed a big architecture changes in patches of that
issue (I think it is actually a fork - "compiler module"?), so surely will find
much incompatibilities with my deployment.

About HBase, each x.x(+1).x step has a lot of fixes. I guess they are running
out of numbers and squeeze each one all they can. But it is right that almost
every project is created for 0.90.X.
Take a look at changes in HBase 0.94.3
(http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/hbase/tags/0.94.3RC0/CHANGES.txt) and you will
see they publish a lot of fixes each month and only changing the "rc" version
or the x.xx.(+1).

I want to use Avro 1.5.3 because that is the version used in HBase 0.92.0 and I
stick to that. It creates a big headache avro and xerces versions issue (and
version issues and versions issues), so I think that using the same versions is
a good aproach (or seems).

I want to clarify that I am not proposing to migrate to that versions, but the
possibility of something faster for gora 0.2.2? without changing the
architecture (as I understand in GORA-94 for gora 0.3). I imagine that someone
must be having troubles using Hadoop 0.20 and Avro 1.3.3 if they use other
versions different than those, not only me.

Thanks for you reply!

> I have seen the upgrado to Hadoop 1.0.1 [#GORA-76], but I ask for Hadoop
> 1.0.3 because it is the specific version I use although Hadoop 1.0.4 was
> released recently.
