Marko Asplund commented on GORA-98:
-----------------------------------

Hello Lewis,

I really appreciate you taking the time to give more background on this issue,
thank you!

My interest in Gora is through Nutch 2. I'm actually not using the Cassandra
module at the moment, but could be in the future. I've worked with Cassandra
(with both Astyanax and Datastax clients) before in a different context, though.

As things currently stand in the Cassandra Java client space, it seems like
Datastax driver is clearly the stongest contender and using anything else in
Gora would be a wasted effort in the long term for Gora Cassandra support.

So, yes (from a user point of view) I'd suggest migrating Gora Cassandra to use
the Datastax driver and eliminating support for other Cassandra clients to make
development and maintenance easier and faster. I think this would also make
sense from a library dependency point of view.

> CQL queries were an interesting new feature for Apache Cassandra 0.8.0. The
> initial implementation in Hector deals simply with the single
> execute_cql_query thrift method and is largely intended as a means to test
> drive query functionality and behavior, it would be nice to implement this
> within Gora.
