I guess the question is will 1.5 ever be released?

It is true that it is supposed to have merge tracking and things, but it
is still a centralized system with all that goes with it -- including
complete inability to do anything useful if you are not connected to the
Internet.

Basically distributed version control is the future and centralized is
the past -- even the Subversion people admit this.  For some proprietary
developments centralized may still be a way forward but for FOSS,
centralized is anathema!
