some smart people who put a doc-dsl in front of
latex, itext, xhtml+css ... whatever can become 
heroes IMO because with a dsl you can easily:

- bridge the gap between static and dynamic content
- solve the modularity-problem
- solve the multichannel-output-problem
- make authoring a simple task

to produce xhtml+css would be the most simple
solution for the start. you can produce very nice
pdf from xhtml+css.  there are even books made
like this. 

i think graeme rocher has started a doc-dsl for the 
grails-reference-guide. but grails is not the right context 
to solve this.
