[gradle-dev] OK this is mildly incomprehensible

I just got the error message:

        Execution failed for task ':compile'.
        Cause: org/objectweb/asm/Opcodes

This has gone beyond my threshold of pain :-(

Particularly as there is no line number indicating where anything might
be wrong.
