Ok, so what is the use case for hidden objects in a presentation? You can't make them visible during a presentation. Do you want to switch between them in edit mode? Doesn't it make more sense to create different pages?
Currently I see that there is a compatibility issue, but I also see a workaround for such things. But if one can explain what the real use case for layers in a presentation is, we can thing of ways to offer such functionality more presentation oriented than the drawing oriented way of the old layer implementation.
So here are 2 short examples where the functionnality was used specially for Impress capabilities :
- help on object positionning, - differences between screen output and printed output : http://luc.novales.free.fr/OOo/couches_impress.sxi
Slide 'Composants d'un PC', here objects are positionned on an ellipse, this layer is hide for printing and presentation, the object names are hide during presentation but printed,
On the second slide, an object (menu) is hide for the printed output and some arrows too (they are not on the same layer).
The printed version is here

Kind regards Sophie
