Hi,
Just found your
wonderful site.
Before I go ahead and
get involved (*no* technical expertise!) could you please clarify for me,
whether the spreadsheet or database will display &xxxx; type characters in
the visible boxes (in place of say Russian characters) or export &xxxx: type
characters into a csv file or tab delimited format?
Currently involved in a
huge project to generate free dual-language worksheets for kids worldwide.
Foreign language data is input in Excel currently; we need to be able to output
the (eg) Russian component as &xxxx; type characters but still-in-the-boxes.
Excel will output such characters in an html file but not a csv file; MS Works
2000 will display &xxxx; characters but not Russian ones (so it will output
in &xxxx; format also). We need Excel (or the OpenOffice.org equivalent) to
enable &xxxx; type view, or export in that format, to get the data into MS
Works which is used to generate the overview pages.
Does OpenOffice.org
software enable some form of &xxxx; output?
Clarification would be
appreciated :) For info the details of the project are at http://www.happychild.org.uk/freeway/xxxxlanguage/index.htm ;
sample Russian page created by literally copying each single
&xxxx;-constructed word from an Excel Script Editor html
format and pasting one-at-a-time into an MS Works db, on line at http://www.happychild.org.uk/freeway/russian/vocab/calendaroverview.htm .
Given that we already
have eight languages currently being translated (free!) we are going to need to
find a solution fairly soon.
Look forward to hearing
back from you :)
Best
regards,
Penny
