Hello to everyone,
I have read the "Specifications waiting for review: Chart Object Naming"
and have some questions.
See first the appended image. This exemplifies some names for the bar
chart (named column chart in Calc, but it is actually a bar chart).
The name 'bar chart' is already occupied by the horizontal bars. This is
an old tradition with which we don't want to break unnecessarily as
users are used to that naming convention.
Do we need to name those categories? (Similar categories exist for all
other chart types, like pie chart, ..., so many more names might be
needed.)
Why do you think that here is something named only for bar charts?
Is that bar named a "STR_OBJECT_DATAPOINT"?
Yes one single 'bar' in a bar or column chart from a global perspective
is a 'data point'. That's right. When you double click on a selected
single bar the Data Point dialog will open for you.
A "STR_STATUS_PIE_SEGMENT_EXPLODED" is defined, but obviously there are
many other putative names for a pie chart. Should all those be defined,
too?
Ah, nice that you point to this. I was definitely unsure with this
sting, but let it in as it was a defined sting in the old chart already
and should be used in the status bar during the dragging operation on a
pie segment. I'll wait for further feedback on this whether the string
might be dropped completely.
So, no, this is not about collecting thousand hypothetical strings. In
contrast as all those strings need to be translated in lot of languages
the goal should always be to use as less different strings as reasonably
possible.
Thanks for your interest,
Ingrid
