Hi Ingrid, Björn Thorsten and Lutz,
Note : If I attached Lutz, it is because of its work on User Experience, to
which this mail is related.
As I told you, I posted on a news website on Friday about the new milestone
9. Here is the link :
http://linuxfr.org/2006/11/04/21574.html
Thank you for posting there. Only my french is not good enough to read
details there. Thus thanks for summarizing.
From this post, I've got a few interresting remarks. A few about the new
chart, and a few about the website. All those remarks are about the look &
feel (we could also call USER EXPERIENCE).
The most interesting ones to me are about the website, so let's start with
the chart part ;-)
I - The chart:
What people ak the more about is :
- Better look for newly generated charts (change colors, angle for 3D...).
They say that the look from the graphs in Office 2007 is great. They hope
Yes, that are very valid additional feature requests. But the new chart
has not the aim to contain all missing features in the first version. In
contrast they will be implemented step by step later on after the new
chart is integrated in the master branch.
- Antialiased graphs -> Not dependant from the graph module (thorsten's
part ;-)
II - The website ( http://graphics.openoffice.org/chart/chart.html ):
- Add a "What's new in the chart module" with the main features added :
- Live preview
- new 3D dialog
- ...
This section was clicked 800 times compared to 250 for download. So it looks
like we should improve that section the most.
Hm, I don't think that advertisement is more important than the product
itself (As a user I personally hate the experience with that kind of
products), but at least advertisement is also important - ok ;-). I
added a link to an overview what has changed in chart2 compared to the
old chart: http://graphics.openoffice.org/chart/whatsnewinchart2.html .
We could base this section what we show-cased at OOoCon. We should make that
quite sexy with sreenshots... People said that there were no enought
screenshots (and that's true that before installing you look at them). So,
we could maybe make things looks better.
Volunteers are welcome here. Just start with it. Make nice screenshots
for the different chart types and some of the new dialogs, arrange them
nicely and put them into the OpenOffice.org Wiki. I than will add a link
to your work on the chart web site.
Thanks,
Ingrid
