Hi everybody,
Tony just tested importing Excel files with the new chart. For that he
designed a few files with Excel 2000 representing all the kinds of
charts.
Here are the files :
-> http://fr.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=634
-> http://fr.openoffice.org/files/documents/67/3771/Excel_2000.zip
the results from the tests :
1 - Secteur_3D.xls : the default gray background is not kept when
importing in Calc
This has been disabled explicitly in the chart module. -> Ingrid?
Yes, this is the same as in the old chart. Pies and donuts do not have a
floor or wall. Thus you cannot get a grey background there.
2 - Secteur_3D.xls : The title from Excel is lost
Indeed. I have fixed this right now. :-)
3 - Secteur_3D.xls : 3D charts "orientation" is not exactly the same.
Import and export of 3D orientation is not supported in the Excel
filters. Will be implemented later.
Same problem as in the old chart: An option to reverse the orientation
is missing (see Issue
37823http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=37823)
4 - Secteur_3D.xls : Borders from 3D charts are visible in Excel, in
Calc there
are "dashed" ?
Seems to be a drawing problem. -> Ingrid
Yes, this is a rendering problem of the drawing engine...
5 - Radar.xls : « Radar » charts are different in Calc and Excel (ex :
grid, labels position...)
Grid: different "automatic" behaviour between Excel and Calc (Excel
filter sets "automatic main interval" flag only).
Label position: The same, different behaviour, not a problem in the
Excel filter.
Here the new chart is not worse than the old chart. Thus you might want
to submit a regular issue (not starting the summary with 'new chart:').
6 - Radar.xls : Legend is on one line in Calc while being on 2 lines
in Excel
Again, different behaviour. Stacking direction cannot be recognized from
the Excel file.
Ah, this one is worse than in the old chart. Would you mind to submit an
issue for this (starting the summary with 'new chart:'). Thanks a lot!
Where is point 7? :-)
8 - Nuage_Points.xls : clouds of points from Excel are not not
imported correctly in Calc.
This is an XY chart without valid X values (the X values point to range
A2:A7 which contains strings). Excel has an internal fall-back to the
values 1, 2, 3, ... but Calc simply drops the data points. The source
ranges themselves are imported correctly.
The same problem did exist already in the old chart. So it would be nice
if you could submit an issue for that (without starting the summary with
'new chart:').
9 - Histogramme_3D.xls : view angle is slightly modified
See above, no support for 3D settings for the moment.
Please send more of this stuff, I will be happy to check and fix all
problems in the Excel filters.
Yes, thanks a lot Tony for the thorough testing!
Ingrid
