Hello,

if in the "Data Ranges…" dialog in tab "Data Series" the left listbox is empty and you want to add a data series, then there are problems for chart type "stock" (and "columns+lines" similar), because it has different types of data series.

Set your chart type to stock type 4 and leave the data range empty. Then go to tab data series and add a data series. You will get one of type "volume". You have no chance to add a data series of type "price", because when the "volume" data series is inserted, the next one will be of the same type.

The user might get such an empty listbox by accident or because he skips step 2 of the wizard. I don't know, how to solve the problem. Of course there are workarounds like going to tab data range and set dummy values, and change them afterwards in tab data series, or first create a column chart and then change to stock chart.

The spec only says in line 76 on page 10
"If the listbox was empty, a new data series will get the default chart type of the template that was selected to create the chart (see ChartWizard Specification)."

Can the behavior be improved? If not, then I think, that the help should give a hint to the user. What hint should it be?

kind regards
Regina
