I found some useful information about ODF and R statistical software.
There is an R package to export/process data into the ODF format. For
the full details, see the R-newsletter:
http://cran.r-project.org/doc/Rnews/Rnews_2006-4.pdf (pp 2-8). Maybe
this should be addressed in the section "In the media" on the main OOo
web page, too.
Package plotrix described in the second article (pp 8-12) contains some
useful charting functions (and some annoying ones, too). Some useful
additions are axis.break, axis.mult, sizeplot, staxlab and many more.
