Proposal number 2 got clearly most of the votes.

The plan is to have the new default colors together with the new chart
available in OOo 2.3.
Of course one single color palette does not fit everybody's needs. There
is demand for multiple color sets from which you can choose then. This
feature request is addressed with issue 74992.
