Dear Kai,
Thank you for your response. The reason for my mail was, that I couldn't find anything about the graphical project on the plan. It looks as if this is not a priority in version 3. I know that you have been busy doing the Chart2. When I use the expression that it stinks, I don't mean this as disrespect for you guys.

But if you look at OpenOffice.org and compares the application with competitors (you know who), you will probably come to the conclusion that Impress is one of the weak links in the chain. Thats what I read in the press.

I'll try to find some additional and more detailed info within a week or so, but summary is this:

   * On multimedia there is the problem that we can't play background
     music over several slides.
   * If you try to embed a movie (any format) in Impress slides, you
will end up with a black box when you run the presentation. If you
are lucky you can hear the sound from the movie.
   * In general: Transition and animation is running badly when you run
the presentation. To slow or it stops on the halfway.

I know that you/we have an extra challenge compared to the competitors (you know who), because we are covering several platforms. And I know that it's not easy to do.

Hi,
Sorry that I am writing, but I have a question:
I had a look at the Wiki and I think that a project is missing. Then I had a look at some of the project pages too. Didn't we have a project concerning improved multimedia support ?

This 'project' is part of the graphics project. The module it is
implemented in is 'avmedia'. So, I am responsible for this
as the project lead.

I mean, the video stinks (sorry, but several issues has been submitted over time) and we don't have the ability to play sound/music across slides in Impress.

Yes, you're right. There already exist some issues regarding avmedia.
They all have a target and a priority set. I know that support on
other platforms than Windows is difficult, just due to the
fact that there's no integrated 'standard' multimedia solution
we can rely on, so that we have to provide more than the already
available JMF connector.

So, to make it short, what are your major concerns on which platform?

It doesn't help a lot letting us know that it stinks. Playing back
music in the background for a presentation is for sure an enhancement
many people ask for and I already have this on my ToDo list. Are there
any other issues you see critical for your daily work?

If this is not an existing project, I'll hereby propose it.

see above.

Please let's f'up on this at the graphics mailing list. Ok?

With best regards
Kai
