Dev Group,
I would like to build a distributed application where classroom
students will get Impress presentation page updates when the
instructor/professor advances his copy of the presentation. For
instance, the professor maintains the original copy of the lecture in
Impress presentation, but she does not want the students to be able to
see future slide only past and present slides. When she advances her
copy, a message is sent to a remote server with the current page and
the server will broadcast that page to all students.
I am new to OpenOffice, have been poking around in forums, wikis, and
source for a couple of weeks and am ready to invite all suggestions to
the brilliant minds who subscribe to this mailing list. I have XXX
questions that are stumping me.
1) Is it possible to store individual presentation pages in a
Database? Do I need to filter on Import/Export?
You can implement your own filter and use an xml stream or the storage
from OOo. How you read and write it to youre database depends on your
database.
2) Each student will maintain only a slideshow of the current 'view'
of the presentation. Is it possible to insert single pages into a
slideshow at runtime? How do I maintain a local reference to the
slideshow on each students computer?
Changes to the document while the presentation is running may work but
needs new API that will be part of OOo 3.0 but is not available in any
public build yet.
How to maintain a local reference depends on your requirements and seems
to me an implementation detail that is not related to OOo in general.
Regards,
Christian
