I have used PDF import to parse and start to render PDF files under Ununtu 32 bit and Windows 32 bit. However, Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit running OOo 3.0.0 (installed through aptitude from repository at http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid) with freshly downloaded PDF import seems not to work; the file is opened as (basically) uninterpreted ASCII.
Steps to reproduce on my Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit machine running OOo 3.0.0 with PDF import: 1: Create a new Writer document. 2: Write "Hello, world!" 3: Export said document as PDF. 4: Close document. 5: Select File -> Open, and open the document. 6: Select default options in the dialogue boxes presented On my machine, it looks like this: --BEGIN QUOTATION-- %PDF-1.4 %äüöß 2 0 obj <</Length 3 0 R/Filter/FlateDecode>> stream x-=#@ --END QUOTATION-- -- Jonathan Hayward, [email protected] An Orthodox Christian author: theology, literature, et cetera.
