You have the option of rolling back to 4.0.6 if 4.0.7 is a blocker. And in the specific case of GROOVY-10890, you can provide type arguments instead of using diamond constructor.
I would like to get some more burn in time for 4.0.7 -- there are lots of users on holiday break in December. Might just be picking it up today and posting bugs soon.
