Hello again, First challenge is to get the build system to work on your system. I
hope this is fairly straightforward nowadays. Please have a look at http://development.openoffice.org for a general overview and http://tools.openoffice.org/build_env.html for an overview of how to build the code. Our build system sadly is a tad more complicated to use than most projects.
I currently don't have fast-enough internet access (I'm behind a 42k analog line), but as soon as I am in vienna again I'll download it and try to get it building. I already played a bit with OOo's build-system some years ago but sadly I'd to gave up after some hours. However I think it simply takes its time ;-)
Using an alpha rectangle for selections is already in progress, so that will not be a problem at some point. In controls (like e.g. Edit fields) it is not a problem anyway since the selection is not done by XOR but by drawing the selection color and then text above it.
Oh glad to hear that controls draw the selection explizitly. Well as Herbert mentioned this could also introduce new performance problems. I am not sure how to proceed exactly here, time will show whats the best. Maybe an option which lets the user select? Adobe currently ignores the display-artifacts which occur when XOR-ing the subpixel text, which means of course colored pixels arround the glyphs.
However I guess even the bindings would be enough for a seperate SoC > proposal ;) Indeed ;-). I think having subpixel rendering for fonts going will be a very good thing; if there is time left (and you still want to ;-) ) you can go on to other areas.
Just because I am really curious: How likely do you think my proposal will/could be accepted? Should I describe some parts better/more concrete or is there anything whats missing in the proposal? Thanks a lot for your reply, lg Clemens
