Actually we can consider both, text is easier to implement for languages that
are not strongly typed. For c++ it has less overhead to read the data from a
socket and bring it into the correct type.
The main problem is that Java has signed types and its serialization over
sockets are not always compatible with c++, but it is a bit of bit shifting.
