The argument will probably be along the lines of having absolute links
is better because .... they represent permanent resources?
Relative links seem to make far more sense to me from a QA perspective.
Was that the argument?

As far as I know, relative paths work fine both for web and local
copies. We may consider changing the links on the web site pages to
relative ones too.
I vaguely recall some discussion about keeping the links absolute a
while ago, though I admit it may have been on a different ASF mailing
list. If required I can look back and try to reconstruct the argument
for you.
